From Mundane To Marvelous: 9 Tips For A Great Blog

So! You’re convinced you need a blog. Excellent. Now, how do you make sure your blog is a great one — and that people keep reading it?

With a great blog, you can build brand recognition and trust,  start conversations, gather valuable feedback, encourage customers to engage with each other, build a community around your business, and more. At Kismet, we’d love to help you with your blog. But in case you’re ready to dive in and create it yourself, here are 9 tips for building an excellent, useful, A+ blog:

9 Tips for Writing a Great Blog

  1. Tailor your content to the needs and interests of your target audience. Do your research!
  2. Make it worth a reader’s time: What are the specific takeaways readers get by the time they reach the end of the post? Create informative, convenient, engaging content.
  3. Mix it up! Use lists, bullet points, subheads, different colors, text boxes, pull quotes, and more for variability and easy-to-digest content.
  4. Avoid “keyword stuffing,” but do thoughtfully incorporate keywords into the titles, subheads, meta descriptions, alt tags, and (of course) the body of the blog itself. If you need help finding keywords, utilize a program like Ahrefs, Google Keyword Planner, or Semrush. There are several good options out there, and some of them are even free!
  5. Find your voice. Is your tone authoritative? Friendly? Funny? Witty? Think about the blogs you like to read and mimic that tone, or write like you’re talking to one specific person.
  6. Keep it clean. Proofread your content carefully to get rid of any spelling, punctuation, or grammar errors. Hire a proofreader or use programs like Grammarly (or both!), and stick to a particular writing style such as Chicago.
  7. Publish your blog with consistent timing. Create content ahead of time so you’re not rushing and so you never mess up the schedule.
  8. Promote, promote, promote! Once you actually publish your blog content, actively promote those posts on social media platforms, industry forums, or relevant online communities.
  9. Pay attention! Use Google Analytics or other tools to see what content connects best with your audience. Data is powerful! What posts got the most likes and comments? Can you write a follow-up post on a particular topic that did well?

Maintaining a blog can be a lot of work, especially if you want to consistently create one that strikes the right balance between practical and entertaining. With the right tools, approach, and support, your blog can stand out and get your business to the next level. Let’s talk!
