SHOPIFY DEVELOPMENT & WEB DESIGN

Shopify Development & Web Design in Jacksonville

Shopify can handle a straightforward ecommerce store very well out of the box.

The development work gets more interesting when your products are complicated, your team needs a better way to manage the store, Shopify needs to communicate with other systems, or the functionality you need simply does not exist in your theme.

Kismet provides Shopify development and web design for businesses in Jacksonville, Atlantic Beach, Northeast Florida, and nationwide.

We build new Shopify stores, customize existing stores, develop custom Shopify apps and tools, work with complex product catalogs, build API integrations, handle ecommerce migrations, improve tracking, and troubleshoot stores that have outgrown their original setup.

Whether you need a complete Shopify website or a developer to solve one unusually difficult problem, we can help figure out the right approach.

Shopify development that goes beyond theme setup

A lot can be accomplished with a good Shopify theme. Eventually, some businesses reach a point where the store needs to work differently.

Maybe customers need a better way to filter hundreds of products.

Maybe your product information does not fit cleanly into Shopify's standard fields.

Maybe your employees are spending hours manually managing information that could be automated.

Maybe the app you need does not exist.

Maybe Shopify needs to communicate with another platform your business depends on.

Those are development problems.

Our Shopify work can include:

New Shopify store development
Shopify web design
Theme customization
Custom Liquid development
Custom Shopify apps
External Shopify tools & admin interfaces
Shopify API development
Metafields and metaobjects
Complex product catalogs
Product filtering and sorting
Ecommerce migrations
CRM & business-system integrations
Klaviyo integrations
Analytics and conversion tracking
Product feeds
Custom workflows and automation
Ongoing Shopify development & support

We can work inside the storefront, inside the Shopify data structure, or outside Shopify entirely when a custom application makes more sense.

STORE ARCHITECTURE

Custom Shopify Stores

For a new Shopify website, we start by understanding how the business actually sells. That includes more than choosing a theme.

We start by asking critical architectural questions across three core pillars:

CATALOG ARCHITECTURE

Product & Navigation

  • 01 How many products are involved?
  • 02 How are they organized?
  • 03 How do customers look for them?
  • 04 What product info needs to be searchable or filterable?
  • 05 Are there unusual variants or product relationships?
STORE OPERATIONS

Fulfillment & Inventory

  • 06 How is inventory managed?
  • 07 What shipping requirements exist?
  • 08 Are products made to order?
SYSTEMS & TRACKING

Integrations & Team

  • 09 What systems need to connect with Shopify?
  • 10 Who will manage the store after launch?
  • 11 What marketing and tracking platforms need to work with it?
THE TAKEAWAY

Those answers influence the store architecture before we start customizing templates. A store with 25 straightforward products needs a very different structure from one with hundreds of products, specialized product attributes, custom sorting rules, multiple product types, and unusual operational requirements.

Custom Shopify Apps & Tools

Sometimes Shopify's storefront is perfectly capable of displaying what the business needs, but the standard Shopify admin is not the best place to manage it.

Other times, the functionality simply does not belong inside a theme. Kismet builds custom Shopify applications and external tools that communicate directly with Shopify through its APIs.

A RECENT EXAMPLE

Custom Drag-and-Drop Gallery Application

We recently worked with a Shopify client that needed to manage a large image gallery. The problem was less about displaying the gallery and more about managing it.

The client wanted something closer to the editing experience they had used in Wix: upload a group of images, drag them into the order they wanted, and make changes without dealing with a complicated Shopify administration process.

So we built them a separate application on a custom subdomain. The application provides the drag-and-drop gallery management interface the client wanted. Behind the scenes, it communicates with Shopify through the API so images can be uploaded, managed, and rearranged while the Shopify website automatically reflects those changes.

That type of project is difficult to solve by searching the Shopify App Store for something "close enough." Sometimes the cleanest solution is building the tool around the workflow the business actually needs.

Selected Shopify development work

Real technical engineering across complex Shopify stores, custom API applications, and ecommerce migrations.

CATALOG & FILTERING

Complex Ecommerce Catalog

Large Shopify catalog requiring structured product types, custom sorting, product-width data, collection filtering, metafields, and custom storefront functionality.

CUSTOM API APP

Custom Shopify Gallery Application

Custom drag-and-drop gallery management application built outside the Shopify admin and connected to the store through Shopify APIs.

STORE MIGRATION

Ecommerce Migration

Existing ecommerce website migrated to Shopify with product architecture, URL preservation, redirects, tracking, and SEO considerations handled during launch.

Comprehensive Shopify capabilities

Engineering storefronts, data structures, APIs, and administrative workflows for maximum performance and long-term sustainability.

Shopify Theme Development & Customization

We work with Liquid, sections, blocks, metafields, CSS, and JavaScript to customize storefronts cleanly. That includes custom templates, collection layouts, dynamic product displays, custom filtering, and reusable section components.

When possible, we build customizations to remain manageable through Shopify without requiring code edits for routine updates.

Complex Shopify Product Catalogs

We structure catalogs that browse by width, size, material, finish, application, brand, or technical specifications using metafields, metaobjects, product taxonomy, custom sorting, and automated collections.

Creating a solid data foundation rather than forcing information into tags or titles.

Shopify Metafields & Structured Product Data

Separate fields for dimensions, lead times, specifications, downloads, and installation data. Enables dynamic filters, comparison tools, and automated application logic.

For complex ecommerce, structured data is just as important as how the site looks.

Shopify API Integrations

Connecting Shopify with CRMs, email platforms, inventory systems, internal databases, product feeds, shipping tools, and proprietary software via Shopify GraphQL/REST APIs and webhooks.

See our dedicated Website Integrations & Automation service for complex business systems.

Existing Shopify Apps Are Often the Right Answer

We evaluate whether Shopify already supports a feature natively, if a theme handles it cleanly, or if an app adds recurring cost and performance drag. We recommend existing apps when practical, and custom Liquid or API apps when necessary.

Preventing app bloat that slows down storefront performance.

Shopify Ecommerce Migrations

Migrating established stores to Shopify while preserving product data, customer accounts, order history, image assets, reviews, and 301 redirects to protect search rankings.

We handle both Shopify development and SEO so search visibility is protected during launch.

Shopify SEO

Addressing technical structure, collection architecture, product page schema, internal linking, canonical tags, faceted navigation, and duplicate content issues.

Aligning ecommerce web design with organic search strategy.

Shopify Analytics & Conversion Tracking

Verifying Google Analytics 4, Google Ads purchase conversions, Google Tag Manager, checkout events, cross-domain tracking, and resolving revenue attribution discrepancies.

Ensuring marketing platforms report accurate purchase numbers.

Shopify & Klaviyo

Integrating forms, customer data, order events, abandoned checkout flows, segmentation, and custom event tracking between Shopify and Klaviyo.

Troubleshooting event data when automated email flows fail to trigger.

Taking Over an Existing Shopify Store

Auditing inherited stores built by another agency or freelancer. Reviewing Liquid code, installed apps, product data, tracking, and custom templates before making changes.

We evaluate what already exists before deciding what should be replaced.
